We are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague as a PhD student in the field of Materials Chemistry with a strong background, particularly in Solid State Chemistry and Crystal Structure Analysis, and interest in industrial applications and cooperation to join the Mads Clausen Institute (MCI) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sønderborg, Denmark. The position is for three years with an expected starting date of April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible.
MCI is a part of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and covers research and education, including applications of engineering sciences. Our working language is English, reflecting the fact that far more than half of our students and staff are international. We are located at SDU’s beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a centre for science, culture, and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations with industries in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark, and Northern Germany.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out research mainly within a project funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The research work involves the synthesis and characterization of novel compounds based on mixed-anion compounds (e.g., transition metal (oxy)nitrides) and the evaluation of their performance in solar water splitting. Also, the successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in the supervision of BSc, MSc, and exchange/visiting students affiliated with SDU NanoSYD, preparing project reports, presentations, and publications, as well as writing grants for supporting research at SDU NanoSYD.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
Implementation of research tasks related to the project
Collaborative and independent research planning, materials synthesis and characterization, crystal structure analysis, and performance evaluation of materials in solar water splitting
Independent characterization, data analysis, and interpretation of research results
Scientific communication and presentation of research results at group seminars, scientific conferences, project meetings, etc.
Writing and publishing of project results in international high-impact scientific journals
Additional Responsibilities may be requested in:
Supervision of BSc, MSc, and exchange/visiting students who perform research work on similar research topics
Assistance in teaching activities
Assistance in the preparation of grant proposals for external funding
Assistance in laboratory organization and management
Qualifications (as required):
MSc degree in Materials Science, Materials Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry, Solid State Physics, or related fields
Proven hands-on experience and knowledge of various synthesis methods in solid-state chemistry, preferably the methods used for the synthesis of mixed-anion compounds
Technical skills in materials characterization techniques (e.g., XRD, XPS, SEM, etc.)
Technical skills in crystal structure analysis
Fluency in English (both spoken and written)
Ability to work both in teams and independently
Strong communication and social skills
Willingness to collaborate with other scientists and industry
Qualifications (as assets):
Research experience in X-ray, synchrotron, and neutron radiation facilities
Research experience in solid state chemistry and crystal structure analysis
A track record of experience in writing scientific publications
Technical skills in scientific illustration and animation to deliver visual knowledge of the project
Proven record in participating in national and international research projects and programs
Strong interest in a long-term commitment to a growing research group

Conditions of enrollment/employment
Appointment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position, and the monthly gross salary incl. pension is 36.581 DKK. If you have relevant postgraduate experience, you may be placed on a higher salary step.

Role and Responsibilities:
Use protein design concepts and deep-learning computational methods to develop novel protein-based affinity-binders for detection and quantification of post-translational modifications in proteins and peptides.
Produce, purify and test selected designer proteins for enrichment of cancer biomarkers and to understand cellular signalling pathways involving post-translational modifications, including methylated and phosphorylated protein species.
Complete coursework (30 ECTS) and contribute to workshops and training events within the MIPrecise consortium.
Visit collaborating research groups at Malmö University (S), University of Pavia (I), ReSyn Biosciences (RSA) and Proteome Sciences (D) for advanced training.

The Molecular Metabolism and Metabolomics group, Department of Bicohemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications from talented candidates interested in exercise physiology, functional metabolomics and small-molecule signaling to join our team as a postdoctoral researcher. The position is for 2.5 years, available from January 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful applicant will join a vibrant research environment led by Prof. Nils J. Færgeman. The group currently consist of academic staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, and bachelor and master students. Our research focuses on understanding metabolic regulation and signaling at both molecular and systemic levels, aiming at unraveling how metabolism of nutrients and metabolites is controlled.
This project aims to uncover how specific exercise-induced metabolites regulates systemic metabolism and their role in improving metabolic health in obesity and type 2 diabetes. The successful candidate will utilize LC/MS-based functional metabolomics, proteomics, cell-based functional studies, and advanced receptor screening and ligand-binding assays.

Tandplejen i Varde leverer i dag tandpleje til cirka 11.500 børn og unge i alderen 0-21 år. Vi har desuden cirka 180 specialtandplejepatienter og socialtandplejepatienter. Vi planlægger at hjemtage omsorgstandplejen.
Tandplejen er centraliseret i en stor og moderne klinik, og Sundhedsplejen og Familiehuset bor i samme hus. Vi samarbejder derfor bl.a. med Sundhedsplejen og Familiehuset omkring Babycafe og Familiecafe. Tandplejen er fuldt digitaliseret med elektronisk journal (TK2) og digital røntgen (VisiQuick). Vi anvender desuden talegenkendelse.
Vi er på forkant med mange indsatser. For eksempel har vi allerede etableret en Akut modtageklinik (skadestue), vi afholder masseundersøgelsesdage for at holde ventelisten nede, vi har for nyligt hjemtaget narkosebehandlingerne fra Regionen, vi udfører selv al vores kirurgi med vores mobilkirurg som superviser, og vi har derudover mange flere nye indsatser på tegnebrættet. Vi har rigtig gode muligheder for efter- og videreuddannelse, og ynder at holde kurser på vores egen klinik med eksterne undervisere, så efteruddannelsen er tilpasset vores behov.
Tandreguleringsopgaven er udliciteret til en privat aktør, som har til huse sammen med Varde kommunale Tandpleje, og der er et udbredt samarbejde til gavn for patienter, forældre og medarbejdere.
I Varde kommunale tandpleje er vi ud over dig 9 behandlere, 20 klinikassistenter, 1 sekretær, 2 husassistenter, 1 mobil kirurg, 1 mobil tandtekniker samt 1 overtandlæge. Tandreguleringen består af 2 specialtandlæger, samt 4 klinikassistenter.

Applications are invited for two postdoc positions with SDU Health Informatics and Technology (HIT), The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute (MMMI), University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense. Both positions are for 2 years with the possibility of extension depending on possible additional funding. The positions will be part of two externally funded projects, WISDOM and CHOICE. The planned starting date for the positions is January 15, 2026, or soon thereafter.
Research projects
WISDOM (funded by Horizon Europe; 2023-2028) is led by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and has partners from 10 different European countries. SDU HITs role in WISDOM is development and implementation of responsible state-of-the-art artificial intelligence mediated models and decision support systems for chronic immune-mediated diseases (in particular, multiple sclerosis). CHOICE (funded by NordForsk; 2025-2029) is led by Odense University Hospital in Denmark and has partners in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. SDU HITs role in CHOICE is adaptation and implementation of responsible state-of-the-art artificial intelligence mediated models and decision support systems for identification of people at risk of osteoporosis. Postdoc positions
Both postdoc positions will focus on development and implementation of AI-based decision support in clinical practice using a co-design methodology.
In relation to WISDOM, the goal is to develop and evaluate a demonstrator (TRL 5-6) that supports selected use cases related to shared decision making by patients and health care professionals in multiple sclerosis management.
In relation to CHOICE, the goal is to develop and evaluate a decision support system (TRL 8-9) that is integrated with the general practitioner´s electronic health record system XMO from CompuGroup Medical.
Both postdoc positions will contribute to each project and will require close collaboration between the selected candidates as well as project members from WISDOM and CHOICE.
Ideal candidates
To qualify for the postdoc positions, you must hold a Ph.D. degree in software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related discipline.
The ideal candidates will have many of the following competences.
software engineering experience (full stack development)
artificial intelligence experience (including explainability and interpretability)
experience in interdisciplinary work
experience in working with external stakeholders and domain experts (i.e., using the co-design method)
experience in development of AI-augmented decision support tools
experience in UI and UX design
knowledge of the health domain
We envision hiring postdocs with different profiles that in combination possess the listed competences. Profile 1 will be mostly software engineering oriented, while Profile 2 will be mostly artificial intelligence and decision support oriented.
About MMMI and SDU HIT
MMMI is an internationally recognized research department that conducts research within robotics, drone technology, artificial intelligence, I4.0, software engineering as well as health and energy informatics.
SDU HIT conducts interdisciplinary research related to data driven health technology in close collaboration with experts from various fields. There is a strong emphasis on the development of high TRL systems related to intelligent monitoring and decision support; predictive models for prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis; digital health systems offering novel personalized data collection, treatment plans and interventions. SDU HIT has research activities in areas such as geriatrics, mental health, compassion, cancer, cardiology, osteoporosis, and multiple sclerosis.

Project description
The PhD project is setup in the context of supporting the research activities within RECOVER project (REsilience of COastal Vital Ecosystems through innovative management solutions in the Danish-German border Region). The RECOVER project aims to improve water quality in the western Baltic Sea and increase its resilience to environmental stresses. The project will develop a digital twin model of the southwestern Baltic Sea that can be used to simulate climate scenarios and test various management measures. The work will utilize both local and cloud-based computational resources at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Review existing data sources, set quality standards, and create metadata protocols to ensure consistent, reliable input for AI models.
Design machine learning workflows to interpret large datasets, efficiently select algorithms, train and validate models, and integrate feedback loops to improve accuracy.
Create AI-based Digital Twin models to perform scenario testing, monitor and forecast environmental changes, test hypothetical scenarios, and provide actionable insights.
Transform model outputs into accessible insights and validate predictions by developing a visualization tool to display results through dashboards, maps, and interactive features.
Profile and requirements
The candidate will participate in research and teaching activities within the areas of software and artificial intelligence. The position requires a master’s degree within a relevant area (e.g. software or computer science) and the desired candidate is expected to have knowledge within relevant areas, e.g. within software technologies for programmer support, hardware set up, data modeling and data management.
Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to:

Have high self-motivation to learn.
Be able to work well and communicate expert knowledge in an interdisciplinary team.

Conditions of enrollment/employment
Appointment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position, and the monthly gross salary incl. pension is 36.138 DKK. If you have relevant postgraduate experience, you may be placed on a higher salary step. The preferred start date is from January 1, 2026, and will be agreed with the successful candidate.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) at the time of enrollment and employment. Employment is contingent on enrollment approved by the PhD School. Enrollment will be in accordance with Faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
