The Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) and the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) seek an outstanding candidate to fill a tenure track Fellow (Assistant Professor level) position in the field of Robotics. Qualifications
Successful applicants must:
Have research experience in computer vision fields related to laboratory automation. This could include (but is not limited to) methods for:
vision-based handling of laboratory equipment, in particular glassware and fluids
segmentation and vision-based handling of medical specimens and fluids
Hold a PhD or similar qualifications within relevant fields of Robotics, such as robotics control, modelling, computer vision, medical/industrial robotics and artificial intelligence.
Exhibit curiosity-driven research excellence, thinking beyond traditional boundaries.
Be fluent in English.
Show potential for attracting external research funding. Experience in applying for external funding and a strong international network, are considered comparative advantages.
Have research publications that demonstrate their excellence and broad thinking.

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute is an internationally recognized institute, which has maintained a leading position in robotics for more than three decades. The institute is the origin of robotics research in Denmark and has spawned the world-renowned cluster of robotics in Odense with more than 130 robotics companies including Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots. Building on our expertise in AI, robotics and software, we have raised strong research centres in related domains, such as Health Informatics and Energy Informatics, Drones and other relevant research areas.
SDU Robotics
SDU Robotics conducts research among others within the fields of robotics and computer vision. The unit focuses on research problems from real robotics applications within manufacturing industries, hospitals, elderly care, and other partners in society. The unit also focuses on Robot related vision technologies for facilitating industrial part feeding, automated product assembly, uncertainty aware quality inspection, and biomedical segmentation for diagnosis and robot control.
SDU Robotics’ research involves mathematical modeling and control of robots, robotic processes and robot systems, human-robot interactions, computer vision for reliable inspection and robot control, and simulation technologies for robotics and computer vision aimed at closing the Sim2Real gap. Artificial Intelligence is widely applied within all research fields.

The candidate will be attached to The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute in Odense and is also expected to participate in DIAS activities and interdisciplinary cooperation in Odense regularly.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for tenure track assistant professor as described herein. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.

The tenure track programme the Faculty of Engineering is aimed at the most talented scholars who have established a high level in their current research and other professional work, and those who possess exceptional potential to achieve the highest international level within their research area. Candidates enter the assistant professor level (for up to 6 years) and, upon successful completion, will be promoted to a permanent position of associate professor, subject to a positive assessment by an expert committee. Indicators of relevant scholarly merits include documented independent scholarly output, ground-breaking publications, achievement of excellence grants, and international research network.
Teaching obligations will be reduced compared to a standard professorship at SDU, allowing more time for research and leadership activities.
To qualify for the position, you must have obtained a PhD or similar degree by the application deadline.

The SDU Center for Energy Informatics invites applications for several PhD positions within the field of Energy Informatics. The positions are available for a three-year period.
The SDU Center for Energy Informatics is a leading interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to advancing digital technologies for the green transition of the energy sector. The centre conducts research at the intersection of energy systems, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and data intensive methods, with a strong focus on real world impact through collaboration with industry, utilities, and public stakeholders.
Research themes
The PhD positions are embedded in ongoing national and international research projects and will focus on the following two themes:
#1 Next-Generation Digital Twins for Intelligent Heating and Cooling Optimization in Buildings
This PhD theme focuses on the development of next-generation AI-driven Digital Twin technologies for intelligent heating and cooling optimization in buildings. The positions will contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of scalable Digital Twin platforms that integrate real-time building data, advanced machine learning models, and predictive management strategies. Applications will be demonstrated in real operational environments, enabling improved energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and enhanced indoor environmental quality in complex building systems.
#2 Predictive Maintenance and Asset Management of Smart Energy Networks
This PhD theme addresses the use of artificial intelligence, data-driven modelling, and advanced analytics to improve the reliability and operation of smart energy networks, including smart grids and district heating networks. The positions will focus on developing methods for condition monitoring, fault prediction, risk assessment, and maintenance planning by combining diverse data sources such as sensor measurements, operational data, inspection records, and asset information. The research will support more informed and proactive asset management decisions in real energy infrastructures, contributing to higher system reliability, reduced maintenance costs, better use of energy-related assets, and a more resilient energy system.
The exact research topic will be defined jointly with the successful candidate, taking into account project needs, academic background, and research interests.
PhD position and research environment
As a PhD student at the SDU Center for Energy Informatics, you will conduct independent research under the supervision of senior researchers, contribute to high quality scientific publications, and participate actively in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. The position includes opportunities for participation in conferences, journal publications, and close collaboration with industrial and public sector partners.
The PhD programme is structured according to the Danish PhD framework and includes coursework, dissemination activities, and teaching or knowledge dissemination duties corresponding to approximately 840 working hours over the three-year period.
Required qualifications
Applicants are expected to hold a master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, energy engineering, electrical engineering, building services, or a closely related field by the time of enrolment.
The successful candidate should demonstrate the following qualifications and competences:
A solid academic foundation in data analysis, machine learning, optimisation, system modelling, or related quantitative methods, as acquired through master’s level coursework and project work.
Familiarity with data driven modelling approaches relevant to smart grid, district heating, HVAC systems, or smart buildings, such as regression, classification, time series analysis, or basic predictive modelling.
Experience with data handling, including data cleaning, transformation, exploratory analysis, and basic feature engineering.
Experience with Python or a similar programming language, and basic exposure to scientific computing or machine learning libraries, combined with an interest in developing robust, research oriented software implementations.
Familiarity with AI techniques is required, while experience with multimodal data analysis, large language models (LLMs), and the application of modern AI models in energy and industrial contexts is considered an advantage. Awareness of reliability, interpretability, and responsible AI use is also desirable.
Strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary research settings.

Enrollment and employment terms
Appointment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position, and the monthly gross salary incl. pension is 37.075 DKK. If you have relevant postgraduate experience, you may be placed on a higher salary step.
The start date will be agreed with the successful candidates. The position includes social benefits and pension contributions.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) at the time of enrollment and employment. Employment is contingent on enrollment approved by the PhD School. We are looking to explore the evolution of the carbon cycle over geologic time using Raman Spectroscopy as the primary tool. Work will entail detailed Raman analysis of carbon particles in ancient sedimentary rocks as well as the analysis of modern marine and river sediments. Raman spectroscopy allows us to determine the quantities and thermal maturities of recycled “petrographic” carbon in modern sediments and ancient sedimentary rocks.
The successful applicant will have a solid geological background, preferably in Precambrian geology and track record of using Raman spectroscopy to analyze ancient carbon in rocks. A background in stratigraphy would also be beneficial. We have in house a Horiba LabRAM Soleil Raman Spectrometer.
The successful candidate will be a part of a Villum Foundation founded Investigator grant and the successful candidate will be part of the Nordcee group at the Department of Biology.
It is a 2.5-year appointment starting around October 2026.

At rekruttere og sammensætte det kommende SPS-team. Samtalerne afholdes i uge 41 og 43, og rekrutteringen bliver en central opgave umiddelbart efter din tiltrædelse.
At bidrage til den faglige, organisatoriske og ledelsesmæssige etablering af det nye område, så medarbejderne er klar til at løfte opgaven fra januar 2027.
At skabe fælles retning og sammenhæng mellem de eksisterende SPS-, SU- og Elite-opgaver og den nye indsats for studerende med psykologiske og neurologiske funktionsnedsættelser.
At sikre en god opstart for både nye og eksisterende medarbejdere med fokus på trivsel, kvalitet og fælles faglighed.
At bidrage til den fortsatte udvikling af SPS-området, herunder kommende udbuds- og udviklingsopgaver.
Du kommer ikke til at stå alene med opgaven. En erfaren chefkonsulent og en projektmedarbejder arbejder allerede med forberedelserne og bliver vigtige samarbejdspartnere i etableringen af området, ligesom du vil have et tæt samarbejde med chefen for Studenterservice hele vejen.

Have research experience in computer vision fields related to laboratory automation. This could include (but is not limited to) methods for:
vision-based handling of laboratory equipment, in particular glassware and fluids
segmentation and vision-based handling of medical specimens and fluids
Hold a PhD or similar qualifications within relevant fields of Robotics, such as robotics control, modelling, computer vision, medical/industrial robotics and artificial intelligence.

Be fluent in English.

The Department

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute is an internationally recognized institute, which has maintained a leading position in robotics for more than three decades. The institute is the origin of robotics research in Denmark and has spawned the world-renowned cluster of robotics in Odense with more than 130 robotics companies including Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots. Building on our expertise in AI, robotics and software, we have raised strong research centres in related domains, such as Health Informatics and Energy Informatics, Drones and other relevant research areas.
SDU Robotics
SDU Robotics conducts research among others within the fields of robotics and computer vision. The unit focuses on research problems from real robotics applications within manufacturing industries, hospitals, elderly care, and other partners in society. The unit also focuses on Robot related vision technologies for facilitating industrial part feeding, automated product assembly, uncertainty aware quality inspection, and biomedical segmentation for diagnosis and robot control.
SDU Robotics’ research involves mathematical modeling and control of robots, robotic processes and robot systems, human-robot interactions, computer vision for reliable inspection and robot control, and simulation technologies for robotics and computer vision aimed at closing the Sim2Real gap. Artificial Intelligence is widely applied within all research fields.

The candidate will be attached to The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute in Odense and is also expected to participate in DIAS activities and interdisciplinary cooperation in Odense regularly.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for tenure track assistant professor as described herein. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.

The tenure track programme the Faculty of Engineering is aimed at the most talented scholars who have established a high level in their current research and other professional work, and those who possess exceptional potential to achieve the highest international level within their research area. Candidates enter the assistant professor level (for up to 6 years) and, upon successful completion, will be promoted to a permanent position of associate professor, subject to a positive assessment by an expert committee. Indicators of relevant scholarly merits include documented independent scholarly output, ground-breaking publications, achievement of excellence grants, and international research network.
Teaching obligations will be reduced compared to a standard professorship at SDU, allowing more time for research and leadership activities.
