Assistant Professor in Advanced Sensor Systems

The Mads Clausen Institute, NanoSYD Centre, invites applications for an assistant professor position in advanced sensor systems, including electronic noses. The position is for a three-year term and will commence on February 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

What we offer
The assistant professor's tasks include teaching, research and industrial consultancy.

The assistant professor will be involved in several projects related to the development of advanced gas sensors, their integration into electronic nose systems, and the industrial applications of these systems. The position will also include industrial consultancy activities related to developing electronic noses and teaching in Engineering programs. As an assistant professor, you must develop your ideas and communicate scientific results in English.

What we expect
Candidates with a relevant PhD (physics, nanotechnology, microelectronics, materials science) may seek the position. The assistant professor should preferentially have research experience in advanced sensor technology, functional sensing materials (including the development of chemical binders), electronic noses and sensor integration (embedded systems/machine learning). Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills.

We are an international research group working in the field of sensors (https://www.sdu.dk/en/forskning/c_nanosyd/forskningsomrader/sensor-technologies), and we are seeking a highly motivated assistant professor to join our research team at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), located on the Sønderborg campus. Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at minimum PhD level at the time of employment. During employment, the assistant professor will complete the Lecturer Training Programme.  Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for assistant professor as described herein. Further information on salary and taxation. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial evaluation, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.

Postdoc Position in SECUREAM: Advancing Cybersecurity in Additive Manufacturing

A 20-month postdoc research position is available in the Software Engineering section at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark. The successful candidate will contribute to the SECUREAM research project, focusing on enhancing cyber resilience solutions for digital Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes and workflows in close collaboration with leading industry experts. These solutions will be designed to meet the stringent security requirements for producing high-value, mission-critical components. Application deadline: November 24, 2025.

Introduction

The Software Engineering section at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Demark (SDU Odense Campus) invites applications for a 20-month full time postdoc position with the possibility of extension for the project SECUREAM: Advancing Cybersecurity in Additive Manufacturing in the intersection of blockchain, cryptography, software engineering, and applied formal methods, starting February 1, 2026 (the specific start date will be agreed with the successful candidate). 

The SECUREAM project directly addresses the evolving cybersecurity challenges in AM by developing a comprehensive security framework through close collaboration between academic and industry experts. While the primary focus of the project is on enhancing cyber resilience across digital AM processes and workflows, the framework is also designed to be adaptable to the stringent requirements of high-value and mission-critical component production, where robust security and traceability are imperative. Its aim is to secure AM supply chains, safeguard data integrity and confidentiality, and support compliance with emerging regulations, thereby meeting the rising demand for certified, secure AM solutions.

What we expect

We seek candidates with expertise in blockchain and cryptographic technologies and/or applied formal methods to address critical security challenges in the AM domain. The research will focus on developing and scaling novel solutions to ensure end-to-end integrity, traceability, and confidentiality. The project aims to create a resilient AM workflow secure against threats from compromised system components. The successful candidate’s contributions will be to identify gaps in current technology, evaluate industry practices, and develop impactful security guidelines.

Key responsibilities of the postdoc include 

  • Conducting scientific research and publishing results in high quality scientific conferences/journals.
  • Participating actively in research coordination meetings and dissemination activities.
  • Contributing to the project deliverables while also supporting project management tasks, including deliverable preparation, milestone tracking, and communication across the consortium.

Qualifications and requirements

  • PhD degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related areas.
  • Research expertise with background in at least two of the following areas: Cybersecurity, Block-chain, Cryptography (e.g., Multi-Party Computation), Formal methods, and willingness to enhance knowledge in several of the listed areas. 
  • Proficiency in programming skills (C/C++, Python, Rust, Solidity, Vyper, etc.) is preferable.
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork capabilities.
  • Independence to lead an original line of research.
  • Proficiency in English, both speaking and writing.
