Responsibilities and qualifications
This PhD project aims to build a next-generation catalyst informatics platform that integrates machine learning, text mining, image analysis, and data fusion to make sense of the enormous but scattered knowledge in research literature. By structuring and learning from heterogeneous data, you will create predictive models to guide the discovery of new catalysts. But more importantly, you will be part of a team pursuing a catalyst informatics platform that addresses key challenges in the field, such as poor selectivity and energy efficiency in power-2-x reactions.
The project offers an excellent opportunity for work between data science and computational catalysis. We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in data science, computational chemistry, and the Design of Experiments. You'll work with Professor Line Clemmensen & Assistant Professor Sneha Das (DTU Compute), both methodological experts in statistics and AI, and Associate Professor Alexander Bagger (DTU Physics), a domain expert in electrocatalysis.
The successful candidate must have a MSc in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related areas, as well as a general interest in AI/ML & catalysis for sustainable energy solutions. The candidate must display good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, be innovative and able to work both independently and in cross-disciplinary teams, as well as with international academic collaborators and industrial partners.

DTU, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, the Section for Manufacturing Engineering invites applications for a PhD position (3 years) on the topic of simulation of corrosion fatigue life in AlSi10Mg based on microstructural characterizations.
The project is part of a Villum Investigator grant titled “Microstructural engineering of additive manufactured metals - MicroAM” funded by the VILLUM FONDEN. The overall aim of the project is to introduce microstructural engineering to the field of additive manufacturing (AM) of metals. This is to set the stage for optimizing metals microstructures in-situ during the AM process as well as ex-situ during post-AM treatments and enable predictions of the microstructural evolution, and thus changes in properties, while AM components are in use.
More specifically, the PhD position will look towards connecting different advanced software tools (of multi-physics and data-based models) simulating the metal AM process & microstructure with experimental observations of fatigue and corrosion fatigue failure in AM samples. The goal is to establish causal pathways for understanding failure in AM components. The position will involve development of codes/models simulating the nucleation and propagation of stress corrosion cracking in samples under low cycle fatigue conditions, as well as models for linking the microstructure from the AM process to the fatigue behavior. The position will involve active collaboration with international research groups working on the simulation of corrosion of metal AM, as well as close interaction with the other PhDs/Postdocs and more senior scientists within the MicroAM project.
Responsibilities and qualifications
If you are you interested in numerical simulations of advanced manufacturing processes which involve several physical phenomena and subsequent cross-linking of these simulations over different length-scales as well as linking simulations and experiments, perhaps you are our new PhD student.
The aim is to predict the impact of external cyclic loads (during real-life loading scenarios under aggressive conditions) on the porosity and microstructural evolution in additively manufactured metallic samples, by the development of advanced computational multiphysics models of stress corrosion cracking and coupling these with process-microstructure models (being developed within MicroAM project). Main focus will be on additively manufactured AlSiMg alloys. You will be responsible for the development, calibration and validation of the corresponding advanced multi-physics computational models. You will collaborate closely with a postdoctoral researcher responsible for in-situ fatigue testing under corrosive environments, and will participate in the 4D (x,y,z,time) analysis of the AM microstructure and crack formation/propagation phenomena. In addition to the direct project related research, you will have the opportunity to disseminate your research through publication of papers and presentations at international conferences.
You will work in close collaboration with a group of senior scientists, as well as Postdocs and PhDs all engaged in the Villum Investigator project MicroAM. A 3–6-month foreign stay at an international research group focusing on microstructural modelling of corrosion in AM parts will be part of the PhD project.

Om Sektion for Oceaner og Arktis / Centre for Ocean Life
Vi forsker i krydsfeltet mellem biologi, kemi og fysik i havet – fra mikroskopiske plankton til store regionale havområder, herunder Arktis. Målet med vores forskning er at forstå og forudsige marine økosystemers funktion og samspil med klimaet. Sektionen arbejder med nøgleprocesser, der styrer pelagiske fødekæder og biogeokemiske kredsløb.
En praktik forløb med spændende opgaver
Du vil blive en del af et tværfagligt hold med forskere, laboranter og studerende, og du vil få afvekslende hverdag og en bred ”hands-on” erfaring med laboratoriearbejde herunder sikkerhed, kvalitetssikring og dokumentation, samt mulighed for at bidrage til spændene forskning.
Som laborantpraktikant i vores sektion vil du blive introduceret til en bred vifte af opgaver i laboratoriet. Kerneopgaver er analyse af havvands kemiske sammensætning og kredsløb, af bl.a. kulstof og kvælstof, samt måling af næringssalte, CHNS og lipidanalyse. Til dette bruger vi bl.a. spektrofotometri, TOC, elementar-analyse og HPLC.
Du vil også blive oplært i håndtering af vores kulturer af alger og vandlopper, og i samarbejde med ph.d.-studerende lave forsøg til forståelse af forurening og klimaforandringers indflydelse på de marine økosystemer.
Der vil være mulighed for at deltage i forberedelse og udførelse af praktiske øvelser i forbindelse med undervisning af kandidatstuderende.

The TMAT group at DTU Health Tech is offering PhD positions within 3D bioprinting.
Human tissue models based on stem cells provide new means for studying human health and disease in the lab. These systems may ultimately reduce the cost of drug development and accelerate biomedical research.
Multi-material 3D printing has recently emerged as a powerful tool for fabricating tissues at scale. Beyond the lab, bioprinted tissues may also be applied directly in generative medicine and autologous surgical procedures.
Across these applications areas, a central and critical challenge in bioprinting is the design of appropriate biomaterials to serve as synthetic matrices and scaffold for the tissues.
You will be part of a diverse team of engineers, chemists and biologists that collaborate to achieve interdisciplinary goals within this area.

Are you motivated by the potential of proteomics to uncover hidden biology? Do you want to map the proteomes of circulating tumour cells and reveal novel proteins with therapeutic and diagnostic potential? Join a collaborative PhD project at DTU Bioengineering focused on single-cell proteomics–based analysis of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) from patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).
As part of the EU-funded MIPrecise network (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network), you will develop and apply advanced mass spectrometry and nano–liquid handling workflows to characterize individual tumour cells isolated from patient blood samples. The project builds on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based probes developed by MIPrecise partners to selectively capture and fluorescently label CTCs, enabling precise isolation and downstream single-cell analysis. Using state-of-the-art Orbitrap mass spectrometry, automated sample preparation, and computational integration with transcriptomic data, you will identify protein signatures linked to tumour aggressiveness and metastasis and define multiomic biomarkers for improved cancer detection and patient stratification.
You will join the Cell Diversity Lab at DTU Bioengineering, led by Associate Professor Erwin M. Schoof, an international leader in single-cell proteomics, and collaborate closely with BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung), LNU (Linnaeus University), and UMU (Umeå University). The position offers extensive training in mass spectrometry, microfluidics, data analysis, and cancer biology within a vibrant, interdisciplinary European network dedicated to developing molecularly precise, sustainable diagnostic technologies.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to develop and apply single-cell proteomics workflows for the analysis of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) from small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. You will work closely with MIPrecise partners to implement and optimize molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based enrichment strategies, integrate advanced mass spectrometry and liquid handling automation, and analyze multiomic data to identify biomarkers of tumour aggressiveness and metastasis. This PhD opportunity is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network UP2MEM, a European training network committed to advanced MEMbrane technologies for water and food industries. Through prospective LCA (pLCA), you will identify environmental hotspots and potential improvements, which will guide the choice of materials and energy sources as the project evolves. Application of the SIMPL approach ensures a discussion of how assumptions and key factors are considered when forecasting lab scale results, into full scale futures. Through inclusion of PESTLE and casual loop diagrams (CLD), non-engineering factors are included in the potential futures. The adoption of SIMPL will ensure that the full value chain of a future use of the membranes will be considered. Your research will directly support the transformation of the membrane sector toward safer, more sustainable practices, while equipping you with advanced interdisciplinary skills and international research experience.

This is a highly interdisplinary projects where the PhD student will learn and develop skills in sustainable material design, membrane technologies, prospective life cycle assessment, and industrial innovation .

The f -elements of the periodic table play an essential role in numerous technologies, including catalysts, magnets, and photonic devices. Their distinct characteristics are intricately linked to the electronic configurations of the f -element ions, and any modifications in these configurations result in dramatic changes in their physical and chemical properties. The aim of the project is to bring about a paradigm shift in the design of switchable materials, by delving into the uncharted territory of f -element valence change (VC). The VC materials will be constructed using rigid metal-organic framework (MOF) structures, enabling them to exhibit rapid and cooperative responses to external stimuli such as temperature, pressure, and light. This conceptually new class of chameleonic materials exhibits prompt changes in magnetic, electronic, or optical properties upon stimuli and are promising candidates for applications in memory devices addressable by light, optoelectronics, and sensors. Likewise, the entangled nature of the photonic, electronic, and magnetic properties of the hypothesized materials may provide for entirely novel multifunctional materials, opening new horizons for advanced technologies.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD project will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new types of metal-organic network structures, which includes the detailed elucidation of atomic and electronic structures, and physical properties. The group is in possession of state-of-the-art diffraction instrumentation and single-crystal electron and X-ray crystallography, and the use of synchrotron facilities are central tools to the project. Furthermore, active dissemination of the obtained results, in scientific articles and through participation in international conferences, is an integral part of the job.
The collaborative project involves partners from the ESRF – The European Synchrotron and École Polytechnique.
The candidate should hold a MSc degree in chemistry with a strong focus on synthetic (inorganic) chemistry. Experience with handling and manipulation of air- and moisture sensitive compounds and crystallography are considered advantageous. The candidate should be highly motivated, able to work independently and should be confident in both written and spoken English. The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious, and seek to do science at the highest international level.

DTU Nanolab is one of the largest fair access micro- and nano-fabrication facilities in Europe and we are currently expanding our cleanroom facility. In our cleanroom facility we work with state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication technology for both research and small-scale production. Research and production are typically related to photonics, MEMS/NEMS and quantum technology.
As a process engineer you will be part of the Fabrication Support team at DTU Nanolab. You will advise students and other users on process related topics, and you will train users to use advanced semiconductor fabrication systems in the cleanroom. You will also work with industry partners that wish to realize micromachined devices in our facility. In this case you will design and execute fabrication processes necessary to realize the customer device.
The job
A significant part of your working day will be spent in the DTU Nanolab cleanroom. We are looking for a person who already has substantial experience in advanced micro-fabrication in a cleanroom environment. You should enjoy helping and teaching students and other facility users to operate advanced tools. You have great attention to detail and a structured approach to developing and fine-tuning micro-device fabrication processes.

DTU Nanolab
is a common infrastructure and research facility located at and fully owned by the Technical University of Denmark, DTU. The core facilities consist of a large cleanroom and a state-of-the-art electron microscopy center inaugurated in 2007. We are looking for a motivated and creative candidate to fill a position as a PhD student as part of the MSCA Doctoral Network “SPACER” (Shaping Porous Electrode Architecture to Improve Current Density and Energy Efficiency in Redox Flow Batteries). SPACER aims to develop new architectures for porous electrodes to improve the power density and energy efficiency of redox flow batteries (RFB), enabling affordable and durable long-duration energy storage. The approach is to use hierarchical structures, i.e., complex material layers that can be optimized to specific battery chemistries and flow phenomena from the microscale up. The developed technologies will be validated in half-cells and full working batteries at industrial partners at TRL 6.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your task will be to use electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and other complimentary characterisation techniques to provide holistic and detailed performance characterisation of new hierarchical porous carbon electrodes developed in the network. You will leverage advanced data analysis methods such as Distribution of Diffusion Times to obtain insight into mass transfer and microstructural effects in the new generation of electrodes. The project will be carried out in collaboration with network partners, requiring 3-6 months of secondments abroad.
You will have the opportunity to work as part of an international, interdisciplinary team of 17 doctoral candidates, based at universities and industrial firms throughout Europe. You will be supported by two mentors within the SPACER project and will have multiple opportunities to participate in professional and personal development training. Through your work you will gain a unique skill set at the interface between modelling and prototyping of electrode materials, including characterization of electrodes using spectroscopical and electrochemical techniques at different levels from micro-scale to macro-scale.
You are expected to finish the project with a PhD thesis and to disseminate the results through patents (if applicable), publications in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at international conferences.

The Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) focuses on research and development of functional materials, components, and systems for sustainable energy technologies. DTU develops technology for people. With our international elite research and study programmes, we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear mission to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That mission lives on today. DTU has 13,500 students and 6,000 employees. We work in an international atmosphere and have an inclusive, evolving, and informal working environment.
